Day 1
Baby steps...That was my intention going to the gym this morning. Looking back, it probably was baby steps, but right now it doesn't feel like baby steps. Ok enough whining...this morning we did a walk/run combo on the treadmill and then some strength training. We did some upper body exercises focusing on chest, biceps and triceps. Today's focus was getting into the routine again, easing into the icy waters versus diving in. I am happy with what we did. In looking at what the focus goals of this journey are, I know we accomplished one just by hanging out in the gym and having some good dad and son time. We have begun the "paleo diet" except we have not went grocery shopping yet. So it is somewhat modified based on what we currently have in the cupboards. While at the gym...prior to working out, we jumped on the scale to see our weight. I weighed in at 21.7 stone and my son weighed in at 16.5 stone. Ha! If you want to know the pounds...you figure it out! Anyway we have a long way to go, and we are taking a moderate pace in getting there. We are hoping to be ready for a race (triathlon really scares me to be transparent) in 6 months to a year.

Day before starting...
Ok. I am completely new to the blogging thing. The intent for the blog is to chronicle the quest from fat to fit for me and my son. This journey is multi-purposed: the obvious conclusion from the title, which is to shed some unwanted pounds while moving towards functional fitness, sharing some quality father and son time, and make serious strides towards better health.
How are we going to do that, you may ask? A completely legitimate question...we have talked about several things, even consulted health professionals for direction in this expedition. First things first, this is NOT a fad or gimmick. We are, with great consternation, warring against lethargy and lack of discipline, striving to achieve a modicum of fitness. We will be following the the Paleo diet (if you have not heard of this, you can check out this link http://paleodietlifestyle.com/paleo-meal-plan/). Secondly, we will be combining some strength training with endurance training. We are actually going to set a goal to enter a triathlon further down the road. This pilgrimage is completely overdue, but not too late. So, without further boring you with my writing, wish us well on this journey from fat to fit.
